Myddfai Village Hall

New-build Village Hall, Cafe, Gift Shop + Community Enterprise scheme in Myddfai, rural Carmarthenshire. Awarded RICS Wales Community Benefit Award 2012 + Silver Community Tourism Award for Carmarthenshire 2015.

The community experienced significant socio-economic decline over the last 25 years losing various local facilities. The brief focussed on a sustainable business plan and a low revenue building coupled with other sources of income – in this case a small community café and a community retail facility.

The scheme galvanised the community, harvesting the expertise of associated business ventures like the Myddfai Trading Company, which successfully trades retailing holistic cosmetics and similar articles both in the shop provided and online.

The new centre for the village acts as a hub for community activities and as a regional visitor and interpretation centre for the Physicians of Myddfai.
