Uplands

Basement intervention within existing Arts + Crafts period dwelling in Uplands, Swansea.

The result of a sloping site, residual space beneath the existing house has been exploited to reconcile the arrangement of interior spaces and provide an immediate link between the house and the low-level garden.

In an effort to preserve the integrity of the original house, the basement intervention appears as a simple cut in an existing rockery, with a single glazed wall providing the only threshold between inside and outside, drawing much needed natural light and ventilation into the lower levels of the house.

‘From the initial meeting, concept design through to realisation, HGA were considerate of our needs and interpreted the brief accurately.  We considered the team to be approachable and personable; this along with their professionalism ensured the success of the project.’
